Free UPI QR Code Generator
Let customers pay you in seconds — one scan opens a payment in any UPI app, no card machine needed.
Make my UPI QR code →A UPI QR code turns your UPI ID into a scannable "scan & pay" image. Stick it on your counter, an invoice, a poster or your delivery bag, and customers pay you straight from Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or BHIM — no card machine, no typing your number. QRaft just builds a clean, branded QR from the UPI ID you already use.
How to create a UPI QR code
- Get your UPI link — in the form
upi://pay?pa=yourid@bank&pn=YourName&cu=INRusing your own UPI ID, or copy the payment link/ID from your UPI app. - Paste it into the generator above and your QR code appears instantly.
- Customize the colors, then download a crisp PNG — or SVG/4K for print, all free to make.
- Display it where customers pay — and test it with your own UPI app first.
Great for
- Shops & counters — a "Scan & Pay" card by the till.
- Freelancers & invoices — add it to bills for instant payment.
- Market stalls & food carts — accept payments with no machine.
- Donations & events — let people contribute with one scan.
Tips for a UPI code that always works
- Include
pn=your name andcu=INRso the app shows the right details. - Add a caption: "Scan & Pay with any UPI app".
- Always test by scanning with your own UPI app before you print it.
- Keep dark code on a light background with a white margin so every phone reads it.
What is actually inside a UPI QR code
A UPI QR code is not a picture of your payment details — it is a short piece of structured text that every UPI app knows how to read. It follows the NPCI format and looks like this:
upi://pay?pa=name@bank&pn=Your%20Name&am=250&cu=INR&tn=Order%2012
- pa — your UPI ID, the VPA. This is the only part that is truly required.
- pn — the payee name shown to the payer before they confirm.
- am — the amount. Leave it out and the payer types their own.
- cu — the currency, always INR.
- tn — a transaction note, such as an order or table number.
Because the details sit inside the code, it works entirely offline for the person printing it, and any UPI app reads it — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM or your bank’s own app. You are not locked to one provider.
Fixed amount or open amount
This is the choice that decides where the code belongs.
- Leave the amount blank for a counter, a shop front or a tip jar. One code serves every transaction and you never reprint it. This is what most small shops want.
- Set an amount for a fixed-price item, an invoice or an event ticket. The payer cannot mistype it, which removes the most common cause of a short payment.
- A fixed-amount code is disposable by nature. Do not laminate one and stick it to the counter, because the day your price changes it becomes a liability.
Before you print it for a shop
- Check the VPA character by character. A typo sends money to whoever owns that ID, and there is no undo. Read it aloud against your app.
- Send yourself ₹1 first from a different phone and confirm it lands in the right account with the right name showing.
- Confirm the name that appears to the payer. Customers hesitate when the name on the confirmation screen is not the shop name they are standing in.
- Laminate it, matte not gloss. Glare from shop lighting is the usual reason a counter code will not scan.
- Print it at 5 cm or more and mount it at chest height, where a phone camera can reach without anyone leaning over the counter.
Nothing about your payment details is uploaded here — the code is built in your browser, which matters rather a lot for something carrying an account identifier.
Is there a tax on UPI payments above ₹2,000?
No. This one goes around every few months and it is not true. In April 2025 the Ministry of Finance called the claim that GST would be charged on UPI transactions over ₹2,000 “completely false, misleading and without any basis”.
The reasoning is straightforward: GST would apply to a fee, and there is no fee to apply it to. MDR on person-to-merchant UPI was removed in January 2020, so UPI costs the customer nothing and there is nothing for GST to attach to.
What the ₹2,000 figure actually refers to
There is a real ₹2,000 threshold, which is almost certainly where the rumour started — but it is not a tax and it is not paid by the person scanning your code.
Since April 2023, NPCI applies an interchange fee of up to 1.1% on UPI payments above ₹2,000 that are funded from a prepaid wallet (a PPI) rather than straight from a bank account. Three things matter about it:
- The merchant’s side pays it, not the customer. For the person paying you, UPI remains free.
- It only applies to wallet-funded payments. An ordinary bank-account-to-bank-account UPI payment — which is the overwhelming majority — carries no interchange at all.
- It excludes person-to-person transfers and payments to small merchants.
The rate varies from roughly 0.5% to 1.1% by merchant category. If you are a small shop taking bank-account UPI, none of this reaches you.
Do not split a bill to stay under ₹2,000
A trick doing the rounds is to break a large payment into several smaller ones to keep each below ₹2,000. It is worth being clear about this: there is no tax to avoid, so it achieves nothing, and it creates real problems of its own.
- Your books stop matching your bills, which makes reconciliation and any future audit harder, not easier.
- Deliberately structuring payments to stay under a threshold is treated as evasion where a threshold genuinely exists — it is not a loophole.
- Where the interchange fee does apply, splitting to dodge it breaches the terms your payment provider signed you up under.
- It is a worse experience. Four scans instead of one, four chances for something to fail halfway.
If you are being charged something you do not recognise, the useful move is asking your payment provider for the breakdown rather than working around it.
The limits that are real
Separately from any of the above, UPI does have transaction limits, and these are the ones worth knowing:
- A daily cap set by your bank — commonly around ₹1 lakh across all UPI payments in a day, though it varies by bank and by app.
- Higher caps for particular categories such as capital markets, insurance and some bill payments, where NPCI permits more.
- A cooling-off period for new payees on many banks, limiting the first transfer to a newly added recipient within the first 24 hours.
- UPI Lite for small payments without entering a PIN, with its own lower per-payment and balance limits.
These are set by your bank and NPCI, not by the QR code, and a code you print here works the same whatever your limits are. Check your own bank’s current figures before relying on any of them — they are reviewed periodically.

UPI QR code FAQ
Is GST charged on UPI payments above ₹2,000?
No. The Ministry of Finance stated in April 2025 that claims of GST on UPI transactions over ₹2,000 are completely false and without basis. MDR on person-to-merchant UPI was removed in January 2020, so there is no fee for GST to apply to and UPI remains free for customers.
What is the ₹2,000 UPI rule people keep mentioning?
It is an interchange fee, not a tax. Since April 2023 NPCI applies up to 1.1% on UPI payments above ₹2,000 that are funded from a prepaid wallet rather than a bank account. The merchant side pays it, it does not apply to ordinary bank-account UPI, and it excludes person-to-person transfers.
Should I split a large payment into amounts under ₹2,000?
No. There is no tax to avoid, so it gains nothing, and it makes your books harder to reconcile. Where a threshold genuinely exists, deliberately structuring payments to stay under it is treated as evasion rather than a loophole. If a charge appears that you do not recognise, ask your payment provider for the breakdown.
Should I set an amount in the UPI QR code?
Leave it blank for a shop counter or tip jar, so one code serves every transaction and never needs reprinting. Set an amount for a fixed-price item, an invoice or a ticket, where a mistyped figure is the main risk.
How do I check the code before printing it for my shop?
Read the UPI ID back character by character against your app, then send a one rupee payment from a different phone and confirm it arrives in the right account with the right name on the confirmation screen. A typo sends money to whoever owns that ID and cannot be undone.
What is a UPI QR code?
A QR code containing your UPI ID (VPA). Scanning it with a UPI app opens a payment to you — they just enter the amount.
Which apps can scan it?
Any UPI app — Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM and most bank apps.
Is it safe?
It only contains your public UPI ID (what you already share to get paid) and is built in your browser. Always test it with your own app first; you can also use the official QR inside your UPI/bank app.
Is it free?
Yes. Generate unlimited UPI QR codes free and download as PNG. SVG and 4K print files are free too.
