Free WhatsApp QR Code Generator
Let customers message you in one tap — scan the code and a WhatsApp chat with you opens instantly, no number to save.
Make my WhatsApp QR code →A WhatsApp QR code turns your "click to chat" link into a scannable image. Stick it on your shop window, a flyer, your packaging or a table card, and customers point their camera to start a chat with you — no typing your number, no saving a contact. Add a pre-filled message and they're one tap from ordering or asking a question.
How to create a WhatsApp QR code
- Build your link —
https://wa.me/<number>using your full number with country code, no+or spaces (e.g.wa.me/447911123456). - Paste it into the Link generator above. To pre-fill a message, add
?text=Hito the end. - Customize the colors, then download a crisp PNG — or SVG/4K for print, all free to make.
- Print and display it where customers can scan.
Great for
- Shops & counters — "Scan to chat with us" on the window or till.
- Takeaways & restaurants — let customers order or book over WhatsApp.
- Freelancers & services — put it on cards and quotes for instant enquiries.
- Packaging & flyers — turn support questions into a quick chat.
Tips for a code that always works
- Always include the country code and drop the
+, spaces and dashes. - Pre-fill a helpful first message with
?text=so people know what to say. - Add a caption: "Scan to chat on WhatsApp".
- Keep dark code on a light background with a white margin so every phone reads it.
Getting the number format exactly right
WhatsApp links use the wa.me format, and it is strict in a way that catches most
people out:
https://wa.me/447700900123
- Country code is required — a local number on its own will not work.
- No plus sign, no spaces, no dashes, no brackets.
- Drop the leading zero. A UK number written 07700 900123 becomes 447700900123. An Indian 098765 43210 becomes 919876543210. This one trips up nearly everybody.
Get it wrong and the code opens WhatsApp to an error rather than your chat, which you will only discover after it is printed.
Pre-filling the first message
You can put words in the customer’s mouth, which dramatically increases how many people actually send something rather than scanning and hesitating:
https://wa.me/447700900123?text=Hi%20I%20would%20like%20to%20book%20a%20table
- Spaces become
%20. Most browsers encode this for you if you type the link into the address bar first and then copy it back out. - Keep it short and specific. “Hi, I would like a quote for…” beats “Hello”, because it tells you why they are messaging before you reply.
- Put the enquiry type in the text when the code is location-specific — a code on a menu can prefill a table number, a code on a van can prefill the service.
- The message is editable by the sender. It is a starting point, not a form.
Personal, Business or a group
- WhatsApp Business gives you away messages, labels, quick replies and a catalogue. If customers are scanning this code, you want the Business app.
- Groups use an invite link (
chat.whatsapp.com/…) rather than wa.me. Anyone who scans can join, so do not print a group code on anything public unless you mean it. - Your number becomes visible to anyone who scans. Use a business number on anything public-facing.
WhatsApp QR code FAQ
Why does my WhatsApp QR code open an error instead of a chat?
The number format is wrong. A wa.me link needs the country code, with no plus sign, no spaces and no leading zero. UK 07700 900123 becomes 447700900123, and Indian 098765 43210 becomes 919876543210.
Can the code fill in the first message for the customer?
Yes. Add ?text= followed by your message, with spaces written as %20. A specific opener such as asking for a quote gets far more replies than a bare Hello, and the sender can still edit it before sending.
How do I get my WhatsApp chat link?
Use https://wa.me/ plus your full number with country code, no + or spaces — e.g. +44 7911 123456 becomes wa.me/447911123456.
Can I pre-fill a message?
Yes — add ?text= and your message, e.g. wa.me/447911123456?text=Hi. The chat opens with it ready to send.
Do customers need to save my number?
No. Scanning opens a chat with you directly.
Is it free?
Yes. Generate unlimited WhatsApp QR codes free and download as PNG. SVG and 4K print files are free too.
